Panagiotis Tsiotras received his Dipl.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from NTUA, Greece, M.S. degrees in Aerospace Engineering (Virginia Tech) and Mathematics (Purdue) and his Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering from Purdue. He is currently the David and Andrew Lewis Endowed Chair Professor in the School of Aerospace Engineering, and an Associate Director of the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Machines (IRIM) at Georgia Tech. Before joining Georgia Tech in 1998, he was an assistant professor with the department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia (1994-1998). He has also held visiting research appointments at MIT, JPL, INRIA Rocquencourt, and Mines ParisTech, France.

His research interests include optimal control of nonlinear systems and applications of control theory to autonomous ground, aerial and space vehicles. He has served in the editorial boards of the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, the IEEE Control Systems Magazine, the AIAA Journal of Guidance, Control and Dynamics, the journal of Dynamics Games and Applications, and the journal of Dynamics and Control. He is currently the space robotics area Chief Editor of Robotics & AI. He is the recipient of the NSF CAREER award, the Outstanding Aerospace Engineer award from Purdue, the President’s Award for Excellence in Research from the Sigma Xi Society, and the IEEE Award for Technical Excellence in Aerospace Control. He is a Fellow of AIAA, IEEE, and AAS.
